About Us

About Our Products

Our small batch boutique approach specializes in creating unique and fun candles to brighten up any space on any occasion.

Our taper candles are made using a 50/50 Soy/Paraffin wax blend (the paraffin is to add structural integrity to our fragile creations), and we use 100% soy wax for all of our regular non-taper candles. This means all of our regular pillar candles (non-tapers) are phthalate free using 100% Soy Wax.

We also use 100% cotton wicks for a clean burn, along with 100% essential oils (phthalate free options available) and plant based dyes for colouring.

I source my silicone molds from a very wide variety of artists and websites, and ensure to keep our inventory updated with the newest on-brand molds out there!

We're always happy to accommodate the needs of others, and are aware of certain sensitivities and allergies. Get in touch and we'll get you sorted (soy wax only, phthalate free scents, etc).

If you'd like to read more about Dinner Party, below is a bit about myself, and how Dinner Party came to be!

Dinner Party Origin Story

My name's Ali Postman, and I'm a 33 year old multi-disciplinary artist and Marketing Science Analyst gal with a background in Fine Arts, Fashion Marketing, Data Analytics, and Graphic Design. I was raised in Canmore, Canada, but spent much of my adulthood in Montreal. I now live in Calgary, AB where I create candle treasures out of my studio (aka my apartment).

Dinner Party was essentially born out of loss, pain, and suffering. In 2021 we suddenly and tragically lost my brother in an avalanche. This completely devastated me and my family and has rocked our worlds. A year after his passing I became extremely ill, and required multiple invasive surgeries that would leave me bed ridden for months, with surgeries required annually. My body was failing me, my life was falling apart, and my family was torn apart. A once lively, happy, mischievous, and funny person had turned into someone I hardly even recognized. I adopted a heavy drinking problem and I essentially gave up on life because as people laughed and smiled all I could think about was how "unlucky" I am. Which isn't true.

With the support of some great therapists and doctors, I was encouraged to pick up a craft/activity that I enjoy doing, something to ease my nervous system and allow me to focus and complete tasks. After months of collecting rare and unique candle molds, I found myself 100000% immersed in this new form of art. It became a lifeline. To me there's nothing wrong with trading in one bad addiction for a harmless one like making candles! What started as a hobby became something much much more. I'm 1 year sober, and I truly feel like this little craft saved my life and re-trained me on how to be a human again.

Dinner Party isn't just a candle company, it's a reminder that light can always find its way back, even when we think we've lost it. You are not destined to live your life in survival mode after something(s) traumatic happens, and you can find happiness again. If life has taught me anything it's that bad things happen to people all the time, its how you handle it, and what you do with it that defines you.

Dinner Party is dedicated to Spencer Postman, my best friend, my brother, and guardian angel.
